| After the unfortunate 1-2 defeat to Norway, the Swiss women national team is already under considerable pressure heading into the second matchday. The hosts, whose performance in the opening match should nevertheless give them confidence for the challenges ahead. For 45 minutes, things looked really good for the Swiss women's team in their opening match against the Norwegians. They led 1-0 at halftime, a well-deserved lead leaving their opponents, who were certainly no less skilled, with little breathing room and making a very good impression overall. After the break, however, the game swung in Norway's favor within a few minutes. Two individual errors led to a double strike by the Scandinavians, who even sent a penalty wide of the goal. Nevertheless, the Swiss had enough opportunities until the final whistle to avoid leaving the pitch in Basel as losers. The Icelandic national team was arguably hit even harder on the first matchday than the Swiss women's national football team. This theory can be supported by several factors. First, the Northern Europeans lost 0-1 to Finland, their supposedly weakest group opponent and therefore have at best an outside chance of advancing to the knockout phase. |
